St. Paul Island Spring Visit

Where Are Your Keys? returns to St. Paul Island for the month of March in partnership with the Aleutian Pribilof Islands Association and the Aleut Community of St. Paul Island. Master-Apprentice Team Training in Port Graham, Alaska

As a follow up to our two-week Master-Apprentice Team training in October, the WAYK team returns to Port Graham for two weeks of further training in February to support the local Sugt'stun team.  The WAYK team will continue to support Master-Apprentice teams in their regular language visits and immersion sessions, in addition to working on the development of lessons to enhance their adult language curriculum and classes.

Alaska Native Heritage Center Follow Up Training

WAYK returns to the Alaska Native Heritage Center for a follow up training with their Yup’ik and Inupiaq teaching teams. This training will focus on using WAYK Techniques in the classroom as well as designing lesson plans that incorporate WAYK activities (buckets, walks, games) and lead up to a milestone conversation (an introduction, a song, a story, etc.). The WAYK team will answer questions from the teaching teams about their experiences utilizing WAYK in their classrooms so far.

Upper Tanana/Tanacross Small Group Immersion Training

In partnership with the Doyon Foundation, WAYK returns to the Fairbanks region to keep working with some of the many Athabascan languages in the interior.  This four-week visit focuses on continued training for participants of past workshops, especially small group immersion sessions. Following a three-week visit to Fairbanks to work with Gwich'in and Lower Tanana speakers and learners, the WAYK team will head to Northway to work with the Upper Tanana and Tanacross languages. In partnership with the Doyon Foundation, WAYK returns to the Fairbanks region to keep working with some of the many Athabascan languages in the interior.  This four-week visit focuses on continued training for participants of past workshops, especially small group immersion sessions. Master-Apprentice Team Training in Port Graham, Alaska

Following an Introductory Workshop in May, the WAYK team returns to Port Graham for two weeks in October to support local efforts in further developing Master-Apprentice Teams for Sugt'stun.  We will also visit with the neighboring community, Nanwalek.  The WAYK team will work with small teams of learners and speakers, coaching and assisting with immersion sessions around the kitchen table.
