As APIA (the Aleutian Pribilof Islands Association) enters the third year of their three-year language initiative with support from ANA (the Administration for Native Americans), the WAYK team returns to Atka for 10 days of sessions in the fall of 2017.
During this visit, the WAYK team will provide additional training and support for members of the local core team who attended previous WAYK workshops and participated in our 2016 Summer Intensive and in Atka’s independent 2017 Summer Intensive. WAYK will continue to support these core team members as they implement language curriculum in the local school. We will also continue to work with small groups of learners and speakers of Niiĝuĝim Tunuu, in an effort to refine existing lessons and curriculum, develop new lessons, enhance teaching skills, and increase the team’s fluency.
