APIA Workshop: Anchorage Spring 2016

April 9, 2016 - April 23, 2016

As APIA (the Aleutian Pribilof Islands Association) partners with Where Are Your Keys? on a new three-year language initiative with support from ANA (the Administration for Native Americans), the WAYK team returns to Anchorage for our Spring 2016 visit.

APIA will offer an initial introductory workshop on April 9th and 10th from 9:00 am-4:00 pm. This is a great opportunity for anyone in the Anchorage Unangax̂ community to get involved with APIA’s language initiative. If you’re new to WAYK, this workshop will provide a foundation in the method suitable for beginners using the Unangam Tunuu lessons created in St. Paul during the 2015 Summer Langauge Intensive.

In the following two weeks, the WAYK team will work with small groups of learners and speakers of both dialects of Unangam Tunuu (Eastern and Atkan) in shorter sessions (1-2 hours), in an effort to refine existing lessons and curriculum, develop skills in both teaching and immersion, and increase fluency. The precise content of these small group sessions will be tailored to the needs of the attendees.
