March 26, 2018 – April 8, 2018
The WAYK team will travel to the interior of Alaska in April 2018 to work with teachers, students, and community members in partnership with the Alaska Gateway School District. The school district has schools located in the communities of Dot Lake, Eagle, Tanacross, Tetlin, Tok, Mentasta Lake, and Northway, in addition to offering distance education for rural students. In previous years, WAYK has partnered with other organizations (Doyon Foundation and the Interior Alaska Campus of the University of Alaska Fairbanks) to provide workshops in the region. During this two-week visit, the WAYK team will present an introductory workshop, with a focus on two of the region’s Athabaskan languages: Upper Tanana and Tanacross.
