Celebrating Salish 2024 Conference

The WAYK team will be traveling to the annual Celebrating Salish Conference, hosted by the Kalispel Tribe. This year’s conference is scheduled for March 6-8, 2024.

From the conference organizers: “We host the annual Celebrating Salish Conference, which brings together speakers and learners of all Interior Salish languages in the Inland Northwest: Kalispel, Spokane, Colville-Okanagan, Coeur d’Alene, Wenatchee-Columbian, and Montana Salish. Our goals for this conference are to promote new speakers of our native language, collaborate with our neighboring tribal communities, and build ongoing relationships with one another. The Celebrating Salish Conference is the largest language gathering of native speakers in the entire northwest.”

The goal of this session is to introduce participants to WAYK’s foundational Techniques that will help learners remain in immersion longer and support each other in getting fluent faster. We will practice using WAYK Techniques and talk about how to use Techniques to build new lessons or support existing lessons. We are excited to share how these Techniques can be used to support a culture of motivated learners who are eager to practice their fluency by teaching others to speak.
