Hunting Training at the Yellow House

The WAYK team returns to the Yellow House, home of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Sníchim adult immersion program. Our collaboration with the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh learners at the Yellow House dates back to 2018. We are excited to return for this June for a “crossover event.” The WAYK team and guests from the Treehouse‘s Bak̕wa̱mk̓ala Language Program will be in North Vancouver, BC for one week. We will be delivering a training in language hunting focused on the newest cohort of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh program.
The full-time adult immersion program that runs at the Yellow House is run by the Sníchim Foundation in collaboration with Simon Fraser University’s Indigenous Languages Program and with support from the language team at Tsleil-Waututh Nation. This program has been running since 2016. The program has graduated 6 cohorts of a full-time immersion Certificate and one cohort of a full-time immersion Diploma. These full-time programs focus on proficiency development through language immersion and community building.
To learn more about the language program at the Yellow House, we highly recommend this FPCC webinar. The webinar is presented by program leaders Swú7wu Billy, Char George, and Salia Joseph.
