Tsleil-Waututh Nation Lesson Writing Intensive 2020 (Rescheduled and Expanded)

Original Dates: April 20, 2020 – June 12, 2020

New Dates: April 27-August 21, 2020

This spring, in preparation for the 2020 Summer Language Intensive, the WAYK team will spend 8 weeks working with the Tsleil-Waututh Nation Department of Culture and Language to further develop their novice-level curriculum for Sḵwx̱wú7mesh sníchim. TWN’s Department of Culture and Language is strongly supported by the Nation and supplementally funded through the Aboriginal Languages Initiative (ALI) and the British Columbia Languages Initiative (BCLI). TWN’s language program also collaborates with other entities in the region: Squamish Nation, Simon Fraser University’s Adult Immersion Program, and Kwi Awt Stelmexw. This event is open only to previous participants.

Please note: This project was postponed and expanded in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead of onboarding new participants in the summer of 2020, we focused on transitioning a small group of experienced participants to remote work. We ran a longer Lesson Writing Intensive in lieu of the planned Summer Language Intensive for 2020. For the safety of all participants WAYK travel and in-person activities were cancelled during the summer of 2020.
